Pyrethrin Pesticides

Pyrethrins are pesticides found naturally in some chrysanthemum flowers.  Pyrethrin insecticides are not considered natural because they are mixed with a man made synergist to increase their effectiveness.  Pyrethrins degrade quickly in the sunlight which minimizes the amount of residue left behind.  Riptide is a brand of pyrethrin insecticide that is registered for use in a misting system.

Permethrin Pesticides

Permethrins are the synthetic, manmade version of pyrethrins. They are also highly effective on insects.  Permethrins do not degrade as quickly in the sunlight and leave a longer lasting residue.  Because they are man made and are not dependent on the chrysanthemum crop, they tend to be less expensive.  Sector is a brand of permethrin insecticide that is registered for use in a misting system.

Natural Pesticides

Natural products do not have to be registered for use in a misting system, but care should be taken to ensure they are water-based products and do not contain oils.  Using an oil-based product in a Pynamite misting system can cause damage and void the warranty.  Oil based products also tend to leave a sticky film and do not quickly degrade.
